The circular economy
Systems that make the world go round
Earth Overshoot Day marks the day of the year when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what the Earth can regenerate in that year. In 2025, Earth Overshoot Day lands on July 24th, which is 8 days earlier in the year than in 2024.
It is undeniable that we are using more resources each year than the earth produces. The circular economy is a concept that promotes the use of resources for as long as possible, with its focus on extending the life cycle of resources. But how can we be more circular on a personal or organisational level? James will explain the basis of the circular economy, and how it is the basis for the Western world to reach the sustainability and resource management results needed to achieve “net zero”. James will provide practical examples of how we can all do our part, at home and in public life. There will also be an opportunity to ask wider questions regarding the circular economy and the waste and recycling sector.
